Sebastian marched through the fancy hallways, if someone would have told him that he would walk this halls just two weeks ago. He would have killed the poor unfortaned soul that was brave enough to deliver that news to him. But when he saw that Royal Standard dobbering in the water, he didn't hesitate for one second to set sail to his sister's Kingdom.
He knew from his on land sources that his nephew Eigil was out at sea. The lad has taken after his mother after all, alright Sebastian hated to admit that Germund had some salt in is veins as well. But he was someone that was born on land, not like Viola and himself.
They were born on their father's ship, they learned to walk on an always moving underground. They learned to fight, hide and survive the dangerous waters. Because not only Sirens call the dark deeps their home.
Of course Germund knew this as well, he was a sailor before he became King.
And if he didn't well then his sister would have smashed it into his brain. She did that with her lad though.
Sebastian only met the lad a handful of times, and those handful of times was plenty enough for him to know that the lad understood the sea. And it was also enough time to know that his sister made the right choice.
She was really happy ruling the Kingdom, telling others what to do. Something she was already doing to him when they where younger.
That was why Sebastian immediately set sail towards this place, to tell her what he had found. There was nothing in this world or the next that could describe how much he dreaded it. He feared telling her about her sons passing, than facing the bloody Kraken. But he saw it as his duty, he might be a lawless man, but he was still part of this family. If he liked it or not.
He stopped at the heavily guarded door that lead to Viola's office. A place he has seen from the inside, every time he dared to visit.
The first time the guards where foolish enough to deny him entry.
Something his sister shut down faster then they could blink.
Sebastian raised his hand and knocked.
"Come in."
His sister's voice pierced through the door, sweet, jet demanding. As if she knew that it was him.
He didn't want to disappoint her, so he opened the door.
"Ahh, little brother. What can I do for you."
He spread his arms as he walked forward, he didn't smile. Although he was happy to see her in such good spirits.
She wasn't when he met her the day before, what did he expected.
He had told her that her son's ship had sunken, and there was a real chance that he was dead.
"I wanted to talk with you, about what happened yesterday."
Viola looked up from what she was doing, and she smiled.
"About what, the fact that you told me that there was a possibility that my son was no longer alive. For a time my whole world broke down."
He raised his hands.
"To be fair, his ship did sink to the bottom of the ocean. The souls on board of that ship, where brought to him. I rightfully ashamed that he was among the fallen. The way that he survived is truthfully a blessing. But now that we got to this point I wanted to talk about that. The fact that the crazy priest, pulled out his ear plug. Not that of the captain, or the man behind the wheel. No he pulled out his."
Viola frowned, this was clearly something she hadn't considered.
"Do you really want to tell me that Jes Rasmussen, did that on purpose."
Sebastian rolled with his eyes.
"Please sister, open your eyes. I literally came to this Kingdom right after I discovered the shipwreck. I have seen no other ships on my journey here, and I had a favorable wind. So I was here quick, and no vessel that was build by land-walkers is faster then father's old Havplyndreren. And what did I do when I set foot on shore, I went straight to you, I haven't spoken to a single soul. And yet your warmongering brother-in-law, came into the throne room, only seconds after I shared the new with Germund and yourself. How in the Underworlds name, did he knew about your son's supposed faith. And before you say it, no it where not my men. They where all on board when I spoke to you."
She placed her hand in front of her mouth, something she always did when she was thinking.
"It was Karsten who invited those so called priests of the New Religion into the Kingdom. It is indeed his sons and he who where behind the most resent war. But he would never do something so stupid."
"And why would he not, taking out Eigil at sea, to get his boy in the direct line of succession. Eigil is the only Heir to your husband's throne."
"The pirate is right, My love."
Germund came into the room, his eyes sparkled when he saw Viola.
Which was in Sebastian's book a good sign.
"Without our boy, my line dies out and we wouldn't have any other option then to give the throne to Karsten and Valdemar. Or rather to that cursed New Religion."
Sebastian didn't care about religion, not the Old nor the New. Both sets of Gods where making people do stupid shit. He only thing he cared for, and respected was the Sea.
His home port, or what he considered his homeport,Laguna Buaya, didn't have much room for temples and Godly speech.
Which was made perfectly clear by the giant skull like rock that marked the entrance to the port. And the crocodiles that called the place their home.
"But, Eigil is his nephew."
Sebastian slapped his hand in front of his face.
Was this really his sister talking, the once blood thirsty young girl, that gave grown ass men a run for their gold. The one that could drink him under the table, and the one who was partly responsible for him loosing his hand.
"That might be, sister, he is my nephew as well, my blood and I would rather die then to put him in harms way. But not everyone sees their own kin the same. Father for one didn't. He killed his own brothers when grandfather was on decline. He killed his own sons, or brothers when they dared to go against him. You know this to be true, the only one who could talk back to him was you."
Viola looked so defeated, when he said that. She loved their father very much, but she knew what he said was true.
A pirates only loyalty was to the ship, and his crew. And when a pirate feared for the safety of one of those things, well lets say that you wouldn't want to be the person threating them.
But in his case there was one other thing where his loyalty lies, and that is with his family. Especially his sister. He would give all that he has, break every rule in the Pirate codex, too keep a smile upon her face. He hated the fact that he wa the one who took it away, two days in a row.
"Then it is a good thing that I am throwing him this ball, he needs a wife and an heir of his own."
"You are right about that sweet sister, but there is one other thing. He has still the Siren song inside his head. And the fact that he hasn't run towards the depths of the sea, means that the Siren is on land."
Viola jumped up, of course she did. She knew the dangerous creatures as well as him.
"I didn't know that they could do that."
Germund muttered.
"It is forbidden for them to do so, by the ruler of their kind. But they can, and will when needed."
"If that is the case, then we need to find this Siren and kill it."
Sebastian noticed that Germund didn't even asked how he knew all of this. Maybe Viola already told him. But clearly she hasn't told him everything.
"You can't kill it, as long as the lad is under it's spell. He will die if you do. But do not worry, I have my men out there looking out for him and to see if they can discover who the Siren is."
Germund took two steps toward him, and grabbed his shirt.
"Careful now, my dearest King-in-law. I am only doing what is best for your son. If the creature wanted him dead, he would have being. But he isn't, so I suspect that it has another motive. What that I am currently trying to figure that one out. I also know that they aren't able to sing their enchanted song once they are out of the sea. That was the deal they made with Poseidon, when they took recidence in his domein."
Germund let go of him and looked as is Sebastian slapped him.
"How do you know all of this?"
Sebastian shrugged.
"I am a Pirate, I need to know these things otherwise, I would be a dead pirate. And that would be bad for bussniss."
Viola sighed loudly.
"He speaks the truth, Germund. All we can do right now is to keep an eye on our boy. And get him hitched, before your brother and nephew are sucessful and get him killed."
********
Sebastian kicked a loos piece of stone away, as he leaned against the tavern.
His men were inside, enjoying the pleasures that this tavern had to offer. Which was a warm meal, soft bed, alchol and women. They had kept their heads down, and hadn't coursed any trouble in the two days that they where here. Even the young sea rats that didn't know Viola. But those where mostly kept in check by the old barnicals, that had worked along side his father, or had joined him right after he took over.
A sturdy man stepped out of the building, with to large jugs of beer in his hands.
"Here you go, Captain. The best beer inside the Kingdom, or that is what our gracious host keeps telling me. It is atleast better then the stuff they serve at home."
Sebastian took the jug, took a small sip and had to agree with the mans. This beer was ten times better then the stuff they normally drink at Laguna Buaya.
"Any news?"
"Aye, I had the pleasure of meeting the Royal Pup myself. And the Sirens that where with him."
Sebastian almost chocked, did he just say Sirens as in multiple. Was Lord Torben loosing his grip on his subjects? That would be good news.
"Two young women, one with fire-red hair and one with black hair. And there was a male as well. But it appeared to me that he wasn't part of the group, the Royal Pup even locked him up."
Sebastian frowned, then the male Siren was not the one who had sang to Eigil, so it could only be one of the two women.
"After the group left my stall, I did some digging and found out that the black haired woman has being here for the last seven years. And here comes the kicker she doesn't have a voice. Which means that the red haid is the Siren that has her claws into your nephew. And I also think to know what her angle is too."
Sebastian took another sip of the beer.
This man was one of the worst sailors he has on the ship. But he had a good nose for spices and good stories. That is why he was part of the crew.
"And what is?"
The man started to chuckle, a very warm chuckle. One of the many things he liked about this man.
"Well she wants to learn about our world, and having a Prince at your side, opens a lot of doors. And creates a sense of safity. The lady was so curious, about the spices, and she took all the information I gave her up like a sponge."
Sebastian frowned, and then sighed. He knew that Sirens used to get on land to learn as much of the human world as they could.
But that changed after Lord Torben took over.
Sebastian hated the man, not because he threathed his whole family with the Kraken. Which didn't put him in a favorable light. But he hated him about what he has done towards the ocean afterwards.
The ocean was never a save place, but it became much more dangerous.
"But I also think that the Royal pup is feeling the flutters. Not to the Red haid, but to the black haired on. He gave her the puppy love eyes."
Sebastian moaned, that couldn't be any worse. His sweet foolish nephew had to fall in love with a Siren.
